Purpose
The 794 miles that lay between my home in New Jersey and my home in Georgia represent so much more than asphalt. Like most adolescents, I challenged old beliefs, tried new foods, and established an identity I didn’t know was possible.
I wanted to commemorate and concretize my emotional growth as a reminder that the path continues on.
Process
My acclimation to Georgia is personal, so it was only right to conceptualize it through my own camera roll. I chose photos from small and large moments. I organized it chronologically, beginning with my senior year of high school and ending with the beginning of my junior year of college.
To mark milestones in my emotional growth, sections of the book are sectioned by the Georgia crowd slowly revealing itself beneath the New Jersey crowd. I purposely cut my face out of photos when I felt impostor syndrome. As I became more comfortable in Georgia, I emphasized it through popping elements outside of frames.

Printing
I printed the book 2-up saddle stitch from inDesign and went through the process of hand-crafting it myself: trimming, scoring, gluing, binding and pressing.
Beyond
Because of the digital nature of my desired profession, I have learned to appreciate whenever I get to work with my hands. This project exposed me to transferring digital work to printed material and how the user’s experience is affected by it. After seeing how simple it was to assemble my own book,
I am inspired to create more!
